Neoclassical chest of drawers in rosewood and rosewood. Italy, 18th century
A chest of drawers with two juxtaposed drawers, supported by inverted pyramid-shaped legs. It features rosewood veneer and rosewood decoration, forming geometric compositions and classically inspired elements distributed across the various surfaces. The top stands out with a central circular panel, ornamented with a radiant floral motif, flanked by geometric reserves of oblique veins and an embedded perimeter frame of classical design.
The sides echo the decorative design of the tabletop, with herringbone patterns and an embedded frame, showing a formal continuity between the different planes of the piece. The circular metal handles feature a smooth central mirror and simple moldings.
The piece reveals a refined technical mastery in marquetry work, characteristic of high-end Italian production in the 18th century, which emphasizes the contrast of exotic woods, precision in grain alignment, and decorative articulation between flat surfaces.
