Sideboard model 503 in rosewood, Gianfranco Frattini, Italy, Bernini, 1957
A 20th-century sideboard in rosewood veneer, consisting of three aligned modules on a molded lower structure with scalloped feet. The three modules feature elegant louvered doors, with drawers with elliptical handles on the left side and shelves in the center and right. The linear design, with elegant horizontal proportions, highlights the mastery of construction and mastery of materials characteristic of Italian furniture of the 1950s.
Designed in 1957 by Gianfranco Frattini (1926–2004) for the prestigious Bernini brand, the 503 model reflects the rationalist spirit of post-war Italian design, combining formal sobriety with material richness. The use of rosewood lends sophistication to the piece, while the organic details in the handles and shutters introduce a subtle tactile dynamism.
A representative piece of Italian furniture from the 1950s, exemplifying the balance between modern functionality, artisanal refinement and Mediterranean aesthetic identity.
