Pair of Platner benches, by Warren Platner, USA and produced by Knoll International, 1960s
Pair of benches, 20th-century design, with circular seat upholstered in dark green leather, resting on a sculptural chromed steel structure, composed of vertical metal rods arranged radially, forming a shaft in the shape of an inverted drum.
The model was created in 1966 by the North American architect and designer Warren Platner (1919–2006) for Knoll International, in a modular system that combined innovative industrial processes with manual finishing.
The piece articulates the formal vocabulary of American modernism with a fluid and elegant aesthetic, where the metal structure takes on sculptural prominence without compromising comfort.
A representative piece of 1960s North American design, combining technical rigor, visual sophistication and functionality.
