Pair of teak side tables with reversible top, Jens Quistgaard, Denmark, 1960s
A pair of Scandinavian teak side tables designed by Jens Harald Quistgaard (1919–2008), a prominent figure in post-war Danish design. Each table features a reversible circular top, with one side flat and the other concave, originally intended to serve as a tray or fruit bowl. The top rests on three cylindrical turned wooden legs fitted directly to the lower structure.
The piece articulates with simplicity and ingenuity the functionalist spirit of Nordic modernism, integrating multiple functions into a restrained and elegant design. The use of teak, a noble wood with pronounced grain and a warm tone, reinforces the composition's natural and timeless character.
A representative piece of Danish production from the 1960s, combining domestic utility, construction precision and formal refinement.
