Large D. José coffee table, 18th-century, in carved walnut, partially gilded with fine gold, with two drawers and a drawing board. The top is scalloped and wavy, following the lines of the waistline, decorated with a recessed frieze. Wavy and scalloped skirts are decorated with acanthus leaves and shells. Curved legs, adorned with acanthus leaves at the knees, culminating in scrolled feet with a plant motif. Gilded metal hardware. A piece of very interesting and unusual proportions within the Portuguese decorative arts.
