Italian console table in carved, polychrome and gilded wood, 18th century

Italian console table in carved, polychrome, and gilded wood, 18th century. Rectangular in shape, resting on four carved wood legs, polychrome in shades of gray-green, white, and gold. The waist has a slightly pronounced apron, with a central figurehead adorned with plant elements, flanked by symmetrical carved decoration depicting moldings and stylized plant elements. The knees are topped by a stylized geometric element, with thin, inverted pyramid-shaped legs decorated with hanging leaf elements.
The piece reveals the decorative taste of the Italian late Baroque, transitioning into Neoclassicism, combining ornamental exuberance with structural balance. The use of gilding and the presence of an allegorical figure on the apron are typical features of eighteenth-century work from workshops in northern Italy, especially in regions such as Lombardy and Veneto.
A representative piece of decorative sculpture applied to 18th-century ceremonial furniture, combining baroque theatricality, technical refinement and noble polychromy.
