Italian neoclassical chest of drawers with three drawers, decorated with geometric motifs. Lombardy, 18th century
Neoclassical chest of drawers veneered in exotic wood, with a rectangular front and three juxtaposed drawers. The structure features straight lines, decorated with classical friezes and the interplay of wood grain forming patterns, typical of eighteenth-century production in northern Italy, particularly the Lombardy region, in the 18th century. The smooth top is decorated with geometric friezes that run along the fronts and sides. The marquetry composition of the lower drawers, with an oblique arrangement of the grain in a diamond pattern in the center, demonstrates the technical mastery of the veneer. The upper drawer, shorter in height, is separate from the lower drawers. Elliptical metal handles and mirrors.
A representative piece of Lombard production from the second half of the 18th century, combining constructive rigor with the graphic richness of the inlays, in a subtle balance between classical sobriety and decorative sophistication.
